Hi, my name is Jemma Trickett. I'm final year student studying Surface Pattern and Textile Design at the University of Staffordshire. Through my time at university, I have developed skill in adobe photoshop and illustrator, trend analysis and pattern work while also being able to develop my drawing and illustration skills. During my time at university, I have developed a skill for commercial design.
I am a hard-working person with a passion for design who also loves colour and trend forecasting. Combining interesting illustrations with a keen interest in animals as inspiration and using bright colour palettes. I love to create placements and repeat designs that have a fun and unique look to them with aims of bringing a smile to the people who see them.
Live Brief Winner with Sainsbury’s Tu
During my second year at university, I was lucky enough to take part in a commercial live brief with the design team at Sainsbury’s Tu. For this project I had decided to focus on creating an athletic ware collection using marbling and painting techniques in a pastel colour palette. Overall I had created a collection of 24 different items with mix and matched potential. I was successful in winning the project due to consideration of the consumers and sustainability aspects of my designs.
Work Experience
I have spent some time shadowing different areas of design where I Sat in various meetings from trend to buying and had experience of how they visually merchandise and quality control products. This gave me a better understanding of how the commercial world of design works and the relationship that they have with other teams like Buying an how crucial they are during the process.
Fun Facts
- I adore animals, with beloved pets serving as my main inspiration especially my fluffy companion Poppy
- Having grown up watching classic animated films, I have a love of Disney and their style of animation that has served as an influence through out my illustrative style
- I am an avid runner and have completed a 5K recently and hope to be able to take part in more in the future
- I have always been an outdoorsy person who loves spending time hiking, walking and exploring great areas of nature
- Musical theatre has always been a love of mine and adore any chance that I can escape through a show
- Sewing has become a hobby of mine over the last few years and have created a few items of clothing and quilts
